    AIA - Wrestling

AIA and Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) have had a long standing ministry relationship and partnership. We are excited to partner with FCA Wrestling in sending a team to Moldova this summer. Last year we had an amazing time of ministry in Moldova (click to read the blog form last year) and are so excited to have FCA partner with us to help reach Moldova again this year.

We will be joined by four members of the St. Cloud State University wrestling team, Division II national champions, at training camp. All four of these young men will be joined by our AIA wrestling staff Olympic Gold medalist John Peterson and a wrestler from Cal State Bakersfield. Tim Prescott (pictured above) was Division II national champion this year at 125 pounds.  He will be a part of the team and will be sharing his testimony Tuesday night June 2nd at our training camp.

AIA WRESTLING CLINIC FEATURING 2x ALL-AMERICAN MARK DISALVO

2:00 pm- 5:00 pm AIA wrestling will be hosting a wrestling clinic at Miamisburg High School in Miamisburg, Ohio featuring Mark DiSalvo.

Mark was a two-time All-American for Central Michigan University, an Olympic training center resident athlete, director of operations for Cornell University wrestling club, and a two-time Ohio state placer in high school.

Mark is donating his time for clinic, and all funds go to help our five Ohio wrestlers who are traveling overseas this summer: Jacob Kasper (Duke University, Lexington), Brad Metz (Findlay University, Lexington) and Guatemala: Campbell Morton (Wheaton College, Moeller HS), Noel Corderro (North Olmstead HS), and Elijah Perkins (Miamisburg HS).

We will be sharing about our ministry, our tours, and Mark will be teaching technique.

  • Ministry outreaches on our tours

    AIA - Wrestling Projects

One of most exciting parts of our project each year is the ministry outreaches.

Because of the popularity of sports around the world, we have the ability to work in many places that are difficult or nearly impossible to access for many others.

Over the last few years, we have visited schools, prisons, wrestling clubs, and orphanages. At each opportunity our message and strategy are the same.  We interact with the teams beyond just wrestling; often playing soccer, basketball, or other games, and finally sharing the message of the Gospel.

At the beginning of the tour many of our athletes are heavily focused on wrestling, but as ministry opportunities present themselves, their focus shifts to these instead of sport.  I have seen All-American wrestlers in tears after sharing at an orphanage and prison wardens telling us that our visit will be the highlight for a prisoner’s time with them.  Lasting friendships are always created when hearing the Gospel.

Humanitarian aid has also been a key to our ministry and outreaches.  We gift to the teams and clubs everything we bring from jump ropes, soccer and basketballs, Frisbees, clothing, to candy. This tends to open doors for local staff/ministries to into hard to reach places.

Pray for opportunities this summer in Guatemala and Mongolia to share God’s love!
