    Sports Performance - South Africa

Back in the US, I remember the Sports Performance tour to Cape Town as a week of surprising answers to prayer. Every day God opened doors of ministry to faculty and students at UWC (University of the Western Cape) and surprised with His creativity and creation. Penguins were just the start of a week of surprises.

On Monday we "happened" to meet the head of the School of Sports Medicine while walking on campus. He invited us to speak to his calss of 2nd year students! We also met the ehad of the Rugby team and she invited us to work the sidelines and help prep athletes for the game on Satruday. We were also invited to speak to the faculty of the School of Sports Medicine and we met with the head of the Athletic department and student gym. I could go on and on.

Tuesday we spoke to over 50 2nd year students and gave them DVDs of AIA's new Olympic Video, Struggle and Triumph. Forty students indicated that they wanted more info about AIA and over ten of them either want to be in a Bible study or learn about how they can have a relationship with Christ. After meeting with the faculty we were invited to speak to a first year class of nearly 100 students!

And the doors kept opening. By the end of the week we had conducted three strength and conditioning seminars for students, a training session for the gym staff of trainers, met with over a dozen faculty, and connected at least six upper-classman believers and faculty with AIA. At the invitation of the school AIA may bring trainers and athletes as often as possible!

According to Dominic, the sole AIA staff member in Cape Town, "The SP team that came down generated huge momentum for AIA on the UWC campus. Speaking in lectures, training staff and also working with athletes...This has created a strong foundation to branch off from for this second half of the year."

    Sports Performancee - South Africa

The tardiness of this post shows just how busy we were last week. Between meetings with faculty and engaging with students, blogging was nearly impossible. On Thursday we toured the Sports Science Institute of South Africa. It was amazing to see the innovation and research happening there. One of the doctors working at the institute has developed a bike that works your quadriceps and hamstrings eccentrically, which has been shown to be more effective for strengthening muscles. We were also able to share about AIA with one of the managers. Throughout the week we were able to hand out DVDs that share the story of four Olympians who overcame defeat through Christ.

After team time on Friday Curt gave a lecture about strength training to some of the students then Kyle talked to the fitness instructors while we prepared for the worship night. We wanted to see at least twenty students come, and twenty-one students showed up. Some of them were soccer players about to leave for a competition in Zimbabwe. They weren't supposed to be able to stay for the whole thing, but they ended up leaving later. We were able to give them some of the DVDs to give to athletes in Zimbabwe. One of the athletic coaches gave a message about God's plan for each of us. We definitely sensed God's presence moving in people's hearts and in our own.

Saturday we were given the opportunity to help cover some of the rugby games which was especially fun for Jim, Monet, and I. We met a physiotherapist student who singlehandedly got all three rugby teams ready for their games. Personally, I was impressed with her dedication and motivation to her studies. As a first-year student she volunteered to work with the rugby teams. It was interesting to watch how she taped because it was a little bit different than what we've learned. We also learned that she is a Christian and so we connected her with AIA.

P.lease pray that God uses our ministry to strengthen the ministry of AIA on UWC's campus.
