Basketball - Fall Tour
Oct. 8, 2016
My name is Keith McDougald and I'm from Jacksonville, Florida and attended Jacksonville University. This is my first time on an Athletes in Action tour and I'd have to say what I've experienced thus far has been amazing! We're a week in and we actually just finished our first game! So when we first got to the AIA campus I didn't know what to expect, at first I thought I was strictly here for basketball and to grow on the court as much as possible. Little did I know, we would also be spending the majority of our time strengthening our faith in the Lord. And I'd have to say I've appreciated that part of the tour more than anything! Before coming on the trip I kind of felt a tad bit lost in my faith and we have these talks with my brothers & sisters (teammates, coaches, trainers, and media personnel) that really helped me figure out where I am with my faith and is helping me grow every second because we're open and honest throughout it all.
On the court we gel like we've been together forever which I think the Lord made it happen that way. It's funny how He works and made us come together on the court so fast. So the this past Wednesday we left for our first game and I was trying to figure out where we were staying, come to find out we were staying at some host families houses who brought us in and took care of us. And let me tell you! That was one of the best experiences I have had to this day! They brought us in and treated us as there on which was remarkable in my eyes. We did new things like ride the 4-wheeler, ride the combine through bean fields, and ate TURKEY RIBS! (Which were the best things ever) being able to come together with strangers and talk about the Lord and other things that were relatable! The 3 days we were together made it sooooo tough for me to leave but I'll definitely stay in touch with my family!
Earlier today we had our first game against Lima correctional institute which was fun, being able to connect with the people inside and hearing their story was big for me because that was my first time being inside a institute. Actually giving them life, hope, and a breath of fresh air from what they see and hear everyday gave me energy! Being able to give the word to them in a way they can understand it and connect with them was cool. Well, we're about to grab some food! I'm about to put some food on this stomach, we had a long game and we won by the way! Thanks for reading about my time thus far.
PEACE & LOVE and God Bless!
~ Keith for the Team
Later on in the tour, we saw Keith make a big turn and want to follow Christ whole heartedly. Along with 4 other men, he made the decision to be baptized! We understand that baptism does not save someone, but the smile on his face became so much brighter throughout the rest of the tour, knowing that he was following His Savior. God is SO good. We love you Keith!
