Basketball - Colombia

  • Joy and Influence found through serving!

    Columbia Basketball Tour follow up.

Two experiences stood out for Dick:

“The joy that these kids had. Here in America, you see a lot of unhappy kids that have everything they could possibly need or want. These kids have little, but they have unmatchable joy,” Dick said.

Another lesson that Dick learned was the impact of influence. Dick explained that ,while you may not be aware of it, someone is almost always watching or listening to you. If no one on Earth is then God always is.

  • Colombia to Miami and Beyond

    Section: Basketball

The men's basketball team to Colombia has successfully arrived on US soil. After landing in Miami the team said their good-byes and all headed their separate ways.

The Colombia tour was extremely successful spiritually and competitively. The team finished 9-0, taking down club and university teams from Northern and Southern Colombia. As a result of their games, clinics, and outreaches to local athletes, the team was able to share the gospel with thousands of people in Colombia.

The men ultimately grew in their own personal walks with Christ, enabling them to take the things they learned back to their universities and teams.

Matthew 28:19-20 "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

The men's basketball team in Colombia is currently 7-0 and 2-0 against Colombian national wrestlers, although they were 12 and 14.

Since Saturday, clinics have been held for over 100 kids in the local area and the gospel has been shared with well over 2,000 people here in Colombia.  One of staff, Adam, was also interviewed for a local television station. The team also got a chance to spend time and fellowship with Olympic wrestlers and track & field stars.

Aside from things on the court, the team has been able to experience the beautiful Colombian culture. They have been able to partake in the popular dance culture in Colombia on a "chiva", a Colombian dance bus. The team has been treated to eat at Crepes and Waffles multiple times, a Colombian favorite, and has quickly taken the hearts of the players. Also had the chance to attend a local church and share our mission and testimonies with the congregation.
